bruce
To turn mundane moments into deliberate practice by pairing skill exercises with everyday activities until no time is wasted.
Identify one skill you want to develop. Pair it with one daily activity you already do (washing dishes, waiting in line, commuting) and practice during that time. Each week, add one new pairing. By month's end, four mundane moments will have become four practice sessions.
Bruce Lee arrived in San Francisco in 1959 with $100. Within a decade, he had developed Jeet Kune Do, a martial art built on having no fixed form. "Be formless, shapeless, like water," he taught. He said that to express yourself honestly you have to train, and keep the reflex so that when you want it, it is there. On the Pierre Berton Show in 1971 he said, "I do not believe in styles anymore." Teaching (Plus Behaviors, not Lee): What we take from that is constant practice, woven into the fabric of ordinary life — formlessness is not an excuse to skip the work.
He decided to bruce his morning routine, practicing balance while brushing his teeth and tightening his core during phone calls.
